Up to 5 remote sensors

Rope Slip Detection System

A LoRa hub-and-sensor system that detects rope or string movement, distinguishes four movement levels and identifies the triggered sensor.

Overview

The system monitors rope or string movement at up to five remote sensing points. Each sensor distinguishes four movement levels based on speed and sends the event to a central hub over LoRa.

The hub identifies the triggered sensor and alerts the user through LEDs, sound and vibration. Replaceable batteries power both the hub and remote nodes.

Challenge

Detect movement at several separated locations and make the source and intensity of an event understandable at the hub. The electronics need to combine remote sensing, a long-range radio link and clear local alerts in compact battery-powered units.

What We Did

HTS developed the custom hub-and-sensor electronics and the embedded functions for movement classification, LoRa event transmission and sensor-specific alerts. Separate STM32-based boards support the remote sensing and central notification roles.

System

Remote sensor
Detects rope movement, classifies one of four speed-based levels and transmits an event using LoRa.
Hub
Receives events from up to five sensors and identifies the active sensing point using visual, audible and vibration feedback.

Result

The resulting design brings movement detection and sensor identification into a standalone monitoring system. A single hub gives the user local alerts from several remote points and identifies where each event occurred.
