Up to 40 chained sensors

Modular Motion Tracking System

A motion-capture platform with compact sensors connected in a wired chain and a Bluetooth hub that transfers data to a computer or mobile device.

Overview

This modular platform captures motion using compact sensor boards and a central Bluetooth hub. Up to 40 sensors connect in a wired chain, with the hub forwarding measurement data to a computer or mobile device.

Each node combines acceleration, angular-rate and magnetic-field sensing. The system identifies each sensor’s position in the chain, allowing the configuration to be adapted to the tracking task.

Challenge

Collect motion data from a configurable number of small sensor nodes while keeping their order identifiable. The architecture needs to connect the sensor chain to external applications through a compact hub.

What We Did

HTS developed the sensor and hub electronics, embedded firmware, and integration with mobile and desktop software. The work covered the STM32-based sensing nodes, the nRF52 Bluetooth hub, data collection and identification of sensor order within the chain.
